Physician (Gastroenterologist)
The John J. Pershing VA Medical Center is seeking a Physician (Gastroenterologist) to practice in our Specialty Care Service. Clinical duties include diagnosing, treating and managing patients referred for management of GI disorders including liver disease, Hepatitis C, and liver transplants based on standard and customary methods and techniques in both the outpatient and inpatient setting. Procedural duties include performing diagnostic and therapeutic upper and lower endoscopy procedures, PEG placement, esophageal dilation. Responsible for administration and management of moderate/conscious sedation used during procedures. Responsible for completing patient encounters, inpatient and outpatient consults, notes, and correctly coding visits in accordance with coding guidelines. Demonstrates interpersonal skills that enhance the effectiveness and accomplishments of the service. Demonstrates verbal and written communication skills that are commensurate with the responsibilities of the position. The physician will report to the Associate Chief of Staff for Specialty Care and will be expected to cooperate with and participate in medical duties or functions related to quality of care, peer review, serving on facility committees and other performance improvement activities and other duties as assigned. United States Citizenship:
Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed. Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. Completion of residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification. Experience:
Board Certified or Board Eligible in Gastroenterology with at least 3-5 years experience in practice. Reference:

This position involves direct patient care. Exposure to surroundings which involve moderate risks or special precautions. Typically involves long periods of standing, walking, bending, stooping, lifting, and positioning of patients, sitting and carrying items such as books, instruments, and other items.
Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
