Pharmacy Technician

Primary Functions Completes new patient intake reviews for patients assigned to the Patient Aligned Care Team. Provides population management functions using patient care dashboards to identify patients for potential intervention. Assists with ongoing engagement and recruitment of Veterans to the Clinical Pharmacy Specialist clinics. Educates Veterans regarding Primary Care Disease States, ensures Veterans have appropriate monitoring supplies and provide monitoring guidance. Independently maneuvers algorithms to access patient needs and refer care in accordance with patient and/or clinician responses. Assists in coordinating clinic coverage for unexpected leave. Provides reminder phone calls as needed for coordination of care. Serves as a point of contact for patients and to monitor for medication therapy compliance. Manages incoming Veteran calls, voicemail and secure messages and addresses as appropriate. Maintains a comprehensive knowledge of pharmacy drug policies and procedures, as they pertain to Primary Care Pharmacy clinics. Collaborates with nursing staff and primary care providers to prepare for future workload. Administrative Functions Participates in accreditation visit preparation and meetings with accreditation personnel. Examples include The Joint Commission and The Office of the Inspector General. Identifies areas for improvement within the workflow of Clinical Pharmacy to facilitate the delivery of care to Veterans. Develops and maintains a comprehensive understanding of CPRS, enabling the technician to work with a computer application coordinator (CAC) to develop and improve personal and shared templates. Trains and orients new personnel in all technical phases of pharmacy operations within the Primary Care Clinical Pharmacy arena to improve their expertise and understanding of the clinic operations. Provides in-services to John J. Pershing VA Medical Center pharmacy and non-pharmacy staff on Primary Care (PACT) Pharmacy issues. Involvement with pharmacy management to assist with development and updating of John J. Pershing VA Medical Center policies. Utilize VHA office systems to develop and share education, specifically through use but not limited to the following:
Word, Excel, Outlook, Visio and SharePoint. Evaluate, analyze workflow, and coordinate work activities to continually improve the efficiency and safety of Primary Care (PACT) Pharmacy clinic practices. This will include involvement with formal and informal improvement activities. Identify, initiate, and document cost savings initiatives. Independently gathers, evaluates, and analyzes data to generate workload reports and/or for other projects/statistical purposes. Provide status reports of the Primary Care (PACT) Pharmacy programs at periodic intervals. Examples may include pharmacy management meetings, staff meetings or workgroup specific meetings. Secondary Functions Displays ability to cover basic functions of the main pharmacy when assigned, including, but not limited to the below areas:
unit dose medication management, inpatient pharmacy, outpatient pharmacy, controlled substances. Work Schedule:

Citizenship. Citizen of the United States. (Noncitizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with chapter 3, section A, paragraph 3g, this part.) Education or Experience. A high school diploma or equivalent; or at least 3 months experience. May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupation and meet the criteria). Certification. PTCB certification is required. Grade Determinations:
GS-7 Pharmacy Technician Experience. One year experience at the next lower level which demonstrates (1) Creditable Experience. To be creditable, the experience must have required the use of knowledge, skills, abilities, and other characteristics associated with the scope of pharmacy technician practice. (2) Quality of Experience. To be creditable, pharmacy technician experience must be documented on the application and verified in an employment reference, or through other independent means. and must fully meet the KSAs at the next lower level. These are:
GS-06 Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities 1. Ability to solve problems and make recommendations, e.g., troubleshoot operational problems and refer for appropriate action. 2. Knowledge of the operation and care of automated equipment 3. Knowledge of, and ability to follow, written instructions for compounding with aseptic technique for hazardous materials such as oncology agents. 4. Knowledge, and ability to perform, compounding with aseptic technique for routine sterile products. 5. Knowledge of policies and procedures for inventory management in specialized areas such as emergency carts. 6. Knowledge of the computerized prescription process demonstrated by the ability to input prescriptions and medication orders. Comprehensive knowledge of controlled substance policies and procedures, and the ability to identify and investigate discrepancies in these policies and procedures. 8. Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
